Climate researchers are ringing alarm bells continuously, more and more frequently and louder. The goal would be the drastic reduction of the biggest culprit, carbon dioxide emissions, for a very large percentage of which the fashion industry is responsible. Change has begun. Change is good, but! More and more fashion companies known worldwide for operating in an environmentally conscious and progressive way are only doing as much for sustainability as reducing the eco-footprint of their shops and offices, or using natural-based fibres instead of petroleum-derived synthetic fibres (nylon, polyester).
“Fashion brands only focus on the measures they want to see. They rarely talk about their manufacturing and shipping, which make up the bulk of their emissions. – said Muhannad Malas, senior climate campaigner at Stand.earth.
Until companies focus on these areas, they will not be able to achieve a significant impact, and so we cannot talk about sustainable fashion either.
What can we do in the meantime? We should focus on our existing clothes and items instead of new ones! This is also highlighted by the #HASZNÁLTRUHASZEPTEMBER campaign, which promotes wearing, exchanging, and selling second-hand clothes that are still in good condition!
And how does our Agency connect to this? On 9 October 2021, as part of our 2LIFES project, will once again take place the TEXTILE PICNIC – hopefully in a face-to-face setting – one part of the programme will be the sale of second-hand clothes! Details coming soon! 😉
